Lonely Sentinel

I found this lonely sentinel as I was wandering the streets near the river in New Orleans. A house once stood here but now all that is left are two guard dogs.

I converted the image to black & white and increased the blue tones. I then applies the unsharp filter.

Along the Bayou

I was walking along the Bayou today and I came across this view. Some one had cleared the banks of their property so that they could put in their canoe more easily. I increased the contrast of the image so that the cloud reflections would be more visible.

Young Rollerbull

One of the young rollerbulls returning home after the Running of the Bulls festival in New Orleans. I cropped the photo and increased the contrast.

Seussian Flowers

I recently went hiking at the Barataria Preserve with my new camera. My imagination was captured by these flowers. They remind me of the illustrations from the books by Dr. Seuss. Those were some of my favorite stories as a child and I still enjoy some of them today. I made no changes to the image except to crop it.

I have been photographing magnolias lately. I had never seen one before I came to the coast. I did not edit this photo except to crop it.

I took this image at dusk and the light was very poor so I increased the blacks while leaving the sky untouched to create a two dimensional image.

Nest Builders

I spent some time at the Audubon Rookery today. I came away with the realization that I absolutely need a better camera! These egrets are in the process of building their nests. I hope to be able to follow them as they raise their young this spring.

Flowers of Spring

Spring has sprung in New Orleans. These flowers are blooming on a tree that I pass each day on my way home. I lightened the midtones and evened out the high lights.

Garden Boot

This was taken at Longue Vue House and Gardens last weekend. It was a rainy day. The lighting and the moisture seemed to accentuate the colors. That is what attracted me to the scene.

Blue Butterfly

I took this photo several years ago at the Calaway Gardens Butterfly conservatory. I was attracted to the way the light shone through the butterfly’s wings highlighting their brilliant color and delicacy.

I shot the photo using a 38 – 380mm zoom at f/4 and 1/32s.
In photoshop elements I cropped it and adjusted the contrast slightly to show the veins in the wings in the light colored areas.
